Live-in care in Liverpool

Trusted, vetted live-in carers for Liverpool families. One carer, one home, and a Care Coordinator alongside you from the first call.

Liverpool is a city built on community. Whether home is a terrace in Anfield, a semi in Allerton, a flat near the waterfront or a quiet street in West Derby, the things that make daily life feel like yours are usually close by: the neighbour who knocks on, the shops you have used for years, your GP surgery, your church or your club. When someone starts to need more support, moving into residential care can mean leaving all of that behind. Live-in care offers a different path. A carer moves into your home and provides support around the clock, so life carries on in the place you know best.

For many Liverpool families, that matters more than anything else. Grandchildren can still call in after school. Sunday dinners stay in the same kitchen. The routines that took a lifetime to build, from the morning paper to a walk in Sefton Park or Calderstones, do not have to stop. Live-in care typically covers personal care, help with washing and dressing, meal preparation, medication prompts, housekeeping and companionship, all shaped around the person rather than a timetable.

MeddyCare is a CQC-registered introductory agency. We do not employ carers or provide care ourselves. Instead, we introduce you to vetted, self-employed live-in carers, and you choose who feels right for your family. You contract with the carer directly, which keeps the relationship personal and the costs transparent.

What live-in care costs in Liverpool

Nationally, live-in care typically runs from £1,200 to £1,800 per week, depending on the level of support needed, the carer's experience and whether any nights are disturbed. The North West generally sits below London rates, so Liverpool families often find live-in care compares well with what they might expect from national headlines.

With MeddyCare, every carer sets their own weekly rate, and you see it up front before you make any decision. There are no hidden charges layered on top of the care itself, so you can compare carers openly and choose what fits your budget as well as your needs.

Live-in care is often especially cost-effective for couples. Because one carer supports the household, a couple usually pays one weekly cost rather than two sets of care home fees, and they get to stay together in their own home. For many families weighing up residential care for two people, that difference is significant.

Every situation is different, so treat these figures as a guide rather than a quote. Once you tell us what support is needed, we can introduce carers whose rates you can see and compare directly.

Paying for care in Liverpool

There are three main ways Liverpool families pay for live-in care.

Self-funding. Many families pay privately, sometimes with help from a pension, savings or family contributions. Because you contract the carer directly and see their rate before you commit, it is easier to plan ahead.

Liverpool City Council support. If you live within the city, Liverpool City Council's adult social care team can carry out a care needs assessment, which is the first step towards any council funding. A financial assessment then determines what, if anything, the council will contribute. If you qualify, Direct Payments let you receive that money and choose your own care arrangement, including a self-employed live-in carer introduced through MeddyCare. Note that nearby Sefton, Knowsley and Wirral have their own councils, so if you live in Crosby, Huyton or across the water in Birkenhead, you would apply to your local authority instead.

NHS Continuing Healthcare. Where someone's needs are primarily health-related, the NHS may fund care in full through Continuing Healthcare. Eligibility is decided through an NHS assessment, and it is worth asking your GP or district nurse whether an assessment would be appropriate.

We are always happy to talk through the options, although for formal advice on funding it is best to speak to the council or an independent financial adviser who specialises in care.

  2. Meet vetted carers. We introduce self-employed live-in carers who match your situation. You can review their experience, references and weekly rate, and speak to them before deciding.

Common questions from Liverpool families

Is live-in care cheaper than a care home in Liverpool?

It depends on the level of need, but for couples it often is, because one carer supports both people for one weekly cost. For a single person the costs are frequently comparable to a good care home, with the added benefit of one-to-one support at home.

Who actually employs the carer?

The carer is self-employed and you contract with them directly. MeddyCare is a CQC-registered introductory agency: we vet carers and make the introduction, but we are not the employer and do not deliver care ourselves.

Can we use council funding for live-in care?

Often, yes. Start with a care needs assessment from Liverpool City Council, or your own council if you live in Sefton, Knowsley or Wirral. If you are eligible for support, Direct Payments typically give you the freedom to choose your own arrangement.

What happens when the carer needs a break?

Self-employed carers plan their own breaks, and this is agreed with you in advance. When cover is needed, we aim to introduce another vetted carer so support at home continues without disruption.

Also covering the Liverpool area

As well as Liverpool itself, we introduce live-in carers to families in Birkenhead, Southport, Crosby, Formby, St Helens, Widnes, Runcorn, Bootle, Huyton and Wallasey, plus the villages and communities in between. Wherever home is, we aim to find a carer who fits it.
